“This is fun, we should do it more often!"
It was Shrove Tuesday 2005, at a sponsored Knit In raising money for the North Devon Hospice. Some 30 knitters were nattering in the Manor Hall whilst Sally Barten and her Sunday School team were busy cooking and serving pancakes. And so began the Berrynarbor Craft Group.
Getting together on Monday afternoons from 1.45 p.m., everyone is welcome. Just come along and bring whatever craft you are working on – needlework, embroidery, knitting, beading, painting, etc. – relax, chat amongst friends and enjoy tea or coffee and biscuits, and sometimes cakes, all for just £2.00 a session.
The Art section of the Craft Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays in the month, again at the Manor Hall and from 9.30 a.m. On the 3rd Tuesday, Christine Grafton comes to support the group, either with a technique lesson or to help with individual work. New artists, beginners and those with little or lots of experience are most welcome. Why not come along to find out more?
The group has enjoyed visits, including: to see the patchwork quilts at the American Museum at Bath, Cheristow Lavender Farm, Hartland Abbey, and Powderham Castle, a relaxing barge trip at Tiverton and enjoyed Christmas meals at Kentisbury Grange, Squires and Ilfracombe Golf Club.
Each year the group has held a Knit In open to everyone and has raised in excess of £4,000 for the North Devon Hospice.
So, yes, we have knitted and nattered more often! And we look forward to enjoying the company of new crafters.
